OCF heART Club: Creating Hope Through Art at Westlake Primary

There is something beautiful that happens when a child is given a blank page, a few colours, and the freedom to create.

For many children, art is not just an activity. It is a way to express what they feel, imagine what is possible, and discover confidence in their own ideas. This is the heart behind the OCF heART Club — a creative initiative that gives children at Westlake Primary School a safe, joyful space to create, connect, and grow.

The name says it all: heART. At the centre of everything we do is both heart and art.

Through the OCF heART Club, children are encouraged to explore different materials, experiment with colour, use their imagination, and take pride in what they make. The sessions are simple, practical, and full of joy, but the impact goes far deeper than the activity on the table.

Recently, learners at Westlake Primary enjoyed a creative session where they decorated beach pebbles using acrylic markers. It was a fun and easy way to end the school term, giving the children an opportunity to work with their hands, express their personalities, and create something uniquely their own.

The activity also created space for encouragement and confidence-building. One talented Grade 7 learner designed a beautiful artwork and became an inspiration to others. Learners were encouraged to continue developing their creativity and to work on their own designs during the school holidays.

These moments matter. They remind children that their ideas are valuable. They show them that they are capable of creating something meaningful. They give them a sense of achievement and belonging.
